AIN’T NO PARTY LIKE A 1 YEAR OLD’S PARTY

This song is my dedication to my son, Oliver, on his first birthday that was October 18th. Every time I hear it I think of him and think about his future. What will he be like? What will he look like? Will he play sports? Will he have a ton of girlfriends? Will he be funny like his father? Stubborn like his mother? Will I be around too witness all of his greatness? I sure hope so.

We had a birthday party a few days before his actual birthday since it fell on a Wednesday. We had about 40 people there to help us celebrate. Yes I know, that is a lot of people for a 1 year old’s birthday. I’ve been told a million times. But guess what? I DON’T CARE! (But also I wasn’t expecting that many people to actually come). I always told myself that if I had kids I would go BIG. And that is what I plan to do every year. Not just for birthdays, but for Halloween and Christmas and every other Holiday too. I’m not a regular Mom, I’m a cool Mom.

The day started early. I woke up with Oliver at 7 am, got him dressed and fed, played with him for a little bit, then got myself ready and we head on our way to my Mom’s house for the party. We got there around 9:15 am and started decorating and setting up tables and chairs. We, of course, had Rib Shack cater and it was delicious like always. Food of choice was Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Mac-N-Cheese, and Cheesy Potatoes. Yummmm! The cake we got him was amazing. Green arrow themed. Back story: The cake was themed Green Arrow because our son was named after Drew’s favorite Comic Book Character, Oliver Queen; aka, Green Arrow. After we got done eating and everyone was socializing, we all sang Happy Birthday to Oliver and let him dive into his smash cake. He absolutely LOVED it. And I’m so happy we got to catch it on camera. After he destroyed the cake and got it pretty much all over himself, I ran him inside and gave him a quick bath and he was ready to continue partying. Soon after we had him open his gifts, he is way too spoiled, and he loved playing with every toy he got! His first birthday party was definitely a success.

I asked people to write him a letter for him to open when he turned 18. About 5 people out of the 40 who showed up did this (REALLY??) but that’s okay! I know I will write him one every year and it will be awesome.

We ended the day by heading back home and taking a cat nap the rest of the afternoon. Easy to say we were all exhausted and in a sugar coma.

On Wednesday, October 18, my baby boy turned 1! I celebrated by waking up extra early for work, and waking him up and singing him happy birthday with lots of kisses and cuddles. Just me and him. I took him downstairs and fed him his usual strawberries and cream oatmeal, but I added some brown sugar because it was his special day. Then after that I had to head to work so I put him back in his crib and he passed out. I got home from work around 2:00 pm and he was taking his afternoon nap. He woke up around 3:30 pm and I told him Happy Birthday all over again, with the same amount of kisses and cuddles. That night we had a small get together with just close family and two of our closest friends, who are basically family. We had the best meal in the entire world that Drew’s parents cooked and let Oliver smash another cake. It was a great day.

I hope he looks back and enjoys each and every one of his birthday’s and realizes how loved he is.

Oliver Grayson was born October 18, 2016 at 5:23 pm weighing 6lbs 9.8 oz and 18 1/4 inches long. Fast forward a year and he now weighs 19 lbs and is 29 inches long. Still my little nugget!

Enjoy the photos below. How could you not? I mean look at him!

Cheers, Nicole
